L13: Weekly Reflection

I learned more about two essential topics this week.  1) Link building and 2) Understanding Google Analytics.

Link building is very important for establishing credibility and directing more traffic to your site.  Essentially, you want as many people as you can providing links that land on your web page.  These links can come from other blogs, social media, product reviews, etc.  One of the best ways to ensure that this happens is to make great content or products and then make sure that your site is easily shareable.  Building reputations with other people is a great way to link build.  You can’t only receive and never give.  As you share links to other related individuals through blogs, etc. they are more willing to share your links as well.

I also learned more about using Google Analytics and the tools it provides.  You can search analytics about people’s behavior on your website.  You can see where people are viewing from, how old they are, what gender they are, what pages they leave most often, and which pages they stay on the most.  Understanding these analytics helps one understand where a website is succeeding and where it needs improvement.
